Charter Change requires more signatures to Stop the Methanol Refinery

Save Tacoma Water is preparing to collect 5,559 signatures from registered Tacoma voters in the next 10 weeks on Charter Amendment 5. The goal is to collect 9,000 signatures from Tacoma voters to be sure there are enough valid signatures after duplicates and those not registered are dropped off.

We have support from people outside Tacoma and they want to sign the petition to help stop the methanol refinery as well, so we expect to see some signatures outside of Tacoma. At our last meeting a youth from Federal Way told us of his plans to collect signatures from his high school friends even though they aren’t old enough to sign – he wants to activate young people and encourage the vision of saving our natural resources for generations of people in the future who will be reliant on Tacoma Public Utility for their fresh water.
