Charter Amendment filing on Monday March 7, 2016

Tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM Save Tacoma Water will be at 747 Market Street to file an historic citizens initiative that will serve to protect one of the public’s most precious natural resources, our water. This initiative will amend the City Charter and enable Tacoma voters to express their opposition to water-guzzling foreign-owned industries that will primarily benefit overseas interests and Wall Street bankers. Tacoma residents are rising up to say: “Our Water. Our Resources. Our Voices. Our Vote!”

It will be Charter Amendment 5 entitled: The People’s Right to Water Protection Initiative.

Refiling as a charter change does a very important thing. It cannot be overturned by five votes by the city council after just two years as an ordinance can be.

The petition form has already been approved by the city attorney, so once we file it, we await the final go ahead from the city attorney.

Petition sheets will be available on Saturday, March 12 at 6:00 PM at our event co-hosted with the $15Now folks. Join us at the First Methodist Church, 621 Tacoma Ave S, to be the first to sign.
